When you’re from a place, you always carry it with you. When you leave, it usually remains, like a phantom limb. This song – a simple melody presented four ways – is a meditation on the blood connection I have to the people and landscape of my home state, and the undercurrent of sadness I instinctively feel running through it at this moment in history.
